Blog#9: Commercial songs

Hi, this is Fumika. Today I want to write about music in advertising, we call it “Commercial song.” Nowadays, I think you will hear many regular songs when you watch TV. For example, “Manekineko duck no uta” which is the commercial song of the insurance company Aflac, or opening song of the mail-order company Takata. Those are very famous and you would know what they are when you hear the songs, even you don’t watch the commercials. By the way, when did companies start to broadcast commercial with song? The first commercial song was broadcasted in 1951. Then, in 1959, TV spread rapidly and commercial song has become diversified. There was a TV program which only broadcasted commercial songs. Now, there are two types of commercial song. One includes name of the company or product. Another one doesn’t include name of the company or product, but reminds you of those things. In my opinion, commercial songs are very useful to increase the sales of goods. Because sometimes you can’t forget a song, you think of that all day, then, you will want the product. If a commercial song is very splendid and match the product, it will make the product more attractive. Moreover, Commercial song is a big business now. There is a web site that you can search commercial songs. Here it is. Do you have any impressive commercial songs?
